Ajab Gazabb Love - Music Review

Music by: Sajid-Wajid

First thoughts on Boom Boom, is this Soni De Nakhre from PARTNER? Yes the underlying tune in the beginning is lifted from the PARTNER track but does not have create the same excitement and intensity needed for a HIT track. The lyrics is catchy but the musicality in the chorus should've been more enticing. I found the verses to be better than the chorus as it gives a break to the lackluster chorus. The remix version is much more fun for the club setting.

Tu by Mohit Chauhan has a nice piano and bass build up to the start of the singing. The instrumentation to the song is limited which gives full focus to Mohit Chauhan who does a great job. The flutes and harmonica as well the orchestration gives a nice build up to the chorus line.

The strumming of the guitar and the keyboard claps in Sun Soniye pairs nicely in the song. The song follows a routine path of romantic tracks but the vocals and those notes on the guitar makes it a pleasant listen. The guitar reminds a bit of Jao Na from WHAT'S YOUR RAASHEE but that comparison is limited. The remix is routine and not worth a listen.

Is every album having a full out Punjabi song? Nachde Punjabi stands out from the rest as it follows the hip-hop path by using a slower pace but still delivering the lyrics in quick succession. Dalvinder Singh sounds crisp.

Overall, AJAB GAZABB LOVE doesn't have a song that wowed me but at the same time they're good songs.

Boom Boom - Mika Singh 7/10
Tu - Mohit Chauhan 7/10
Sun Soniye - Mohammed Irfan, Antara Mitra 8/10
Nachde Punjabi - Dalvinder Singh 7/10
Boom Boom (Remix) - Mika Singh

Overall: 7.25/10

Ishkq In Paris - Music Review

Music by: Sajid-Wajid

It's All About Tonight starts with the heavy techno club beats which are groovy and catchy but gets spoilt by Sunidhi Chauhan sounding very amateurish in her entry. The beats and Rahul Vaidya's brief lines are the high points of the song. The french lines are deceptively interesting as they definitely put the Paris in the song.

Seriously, RFAK and Mamta Sharma needs to be more choosy when it comes to there songs. They all somehow end up sounding the same. What's worst is this Saiyaan by RFAK has another Saiyaan twin in HEROINE with RFAK giving the rendition again. As for the song, its somber and slow paced with a desi electronic guitar touch which changes into a full out sufi type song. The change doesn't really appeal much but RFAK sounds great.

Jaane Bhi De is a refreshing duet by Sonu Nigam and Sunidhi Chauhan. The constant light guitar as well as the piano melody is very relaxing and allows you to absorb the beautiful voices of both singers. The song does get a bit long as the composition doesn't really change much as it progresses. The solo by Wajid is okay so I would recommend the duet.

Teri Choodiyan Crazy Crazy Sound is your typical Punjabi dance song. Wajid is very much autotuned in this song but it doesn't matter as the song is somewhat decently catchy. Again variety would've been nice in the composition instead the same dholak template is looped in the background.

Kudiyan Ki Kurti is the best of the album. Yes this one actually has some variety in its Punjabi flavored beats. The flute fanfare is pretty catchy as well as the background vocals. I wished the tempo was a bit faster as it seems too slow to be an item song. I recommend a remix by someone ASAP because like the song says I LOVE BOLLYWOOD!

Overall, no real chartbuster but Kudiyan Di Kurti, Jaane Bhi De, And Tonight are worth a listen.

It's All About Tonight - Sunidhi Chauhan, Sophie Choudry, Rahul Vaidya 7/10
Saiyaan - Rahat Fateh Ali Khan 5/10
Jaane Bhi De - Sonu Nigam, Sunidhi Chauhan 6/10
Teri Choodiyan Da Crazy Crazy Sound - Wajid 4/10
Kudiyan Di Kurti - Sonu Nigam & Shreya Ghoshal 7/10

Overall: 5.80/10

Kismet Love Paisa Dilli - Music Review

Music by: Amjad Nadeem, Santokh Singh

Dhishkiyaon starts with much fanfare by the cacophony of flutes. The rhythm of the song is smooth and medium paced. The rhyming of the lyrics is catchy to lips especially the chorus line. Some bits of it reminds me of "Aage Peeche" from GOLMAAL but that may be because the instruments are the same.

Now Appy Budday lifts the electronic guitar portions from "Bali" from SHAITAN. The singing by Santokh Singh is very baritone and matches the Punjabi hip-hop tune. The special sounds that weave in the background of the song interestingly done for example the drips of water? LOL. The desi version is a bit more classical despite the heavy electronic guitar. I would go with the original since the classical doesn't really fit the deliverance of the lyrics.

So if you thought, 'Oh God, another desi item song with Mamta song' well you're right. I'm a sucker for item songs so I will always like them. Nothing really new here in Jugaad, Sukhwinder Singh and Mamta Sharma, make a good duo. The chorus is nicely done by Sukhwinder. I must say though I don't like this song more than Mamta's last song "Desi Mem" in KAMAAL DHAMAAL MALAMAAL.

The last song is Don't Fuff My Mind aka the title song. The song starts off pretty basic but grows on you once the solos of the instruments are give. Mika Singh sounds a bit more energized after the bagpipe interlude but then the song goes back to sounding too basic. This could be blamed to the chorus being strangely weak. The remix is okay, nothing to praise.

Overall, a surprisingly decent catchy album by Amjad Nadeem and Santokh Singh.

Dhishkiyaon - Sonu Nigam, Ritu Pathak 8/10
Appy Budday (Videshi) - Santokh Singh 7/10

English Vinglish - Music Review

 Music by: Amit Trivedi

Dhak Dhuk starts beautifully with chimes and flutes followed by the soft strumming of the guitar. The mood of the song is quiet and fits perfectly with Amit Trivedi's vocals. The song reminds me a little of a mix of a few DEV D songs but that  may just be the Amit Trivedi template. The similarities are limited as this song stands on its as a nicely composed and sung rendition fitting for a relaxing listen.

Manhattan starts with the sounds of cars driving by with dialogues by Sridevi and a couple other characters. I don't really like when dialogue is in a song so if you are the same please skip the first 30 seconds of the song. As for the song, it sounds a bit disco-ish but still remains a lounge listen and not a dance-able disco song. At first I didn't like Bianca Gomes' pronunciation of Manhattan but I grew into liking it when she started describing the stores in New York. Clinton Cerejo is splendid.

The cello and the suspenseful beeping sounds as well as the constant soft bass in Gustakh Dil gives a feeling of sadness. Since I don't know Hindi I'm assuming it's an emotional song but please comment and let me know if I am correct. The song breaks into a guitar ballad with a soft touch of the 80s in the background sounds. The song does really strike me based on this first instance so it may take time to grow on me and you as well.

Navrai Majhi starts with singing of an older woman followed by the Punjabi melody heard in the theatrical trailer. Sunidhi Chauhan sounds good and the song has a variety of interludes of choruses and changes in instruments but as its core it is a basic template by Amit Trivedi.

There are two versions of the title song, one by Shilpa Rao and the other by Amit Trivedi. Both versions are same in terms of composition but I prefer Shilpa Rao's version as her voice contrast very well with the chorus line singing as well as the peppy upbeat nature of the song. So definitlye props to Amit Trivedi for perfectly picking Shilpa Rao to sing the song.

Overall, ENGLISH VINGLISH is a good album by Amit Trivedi with some variety in melodies.

Dhak Dhuk - Amit Trivedi 8/10
